Date: 12 October 2025
Time: 2:00pm-6:00pm
Location: Wendy's home and garden, 94 Oban St., Wadestown, Wellington
Join art historian and chef Dr. Wendy Joyce in her home for a special small group workshop about Van Gogh's life in Arles in the South of France and learn how to make delicious and easy Provencal dishes perfect for summer meals!
We begin with a visual presentation about the art, life and food of Van Gogh in Arles (about an hour) and then learn how to cook three dishes inspired by Van Gogh's time in Arles: an easy but impressive puff pastry 'tarte soleil' (savoury sun tart), a Provencal salad and a chocolate dessert tbc. All the food is vegetarian and we'll venture out in the garden to pick organic greens and herbs and edible flowers to decorate our mousses.
After the cooking, we'll sit down together and enjoy the meal in the garden on the deck overlooking the harbor if the weather is fine.
Due to space limitations, this workshop is limited to 7 participants.
About Wendy:
Wendy started Savour Cooking School after retraining as a chef following a career as an academic. Her area of expertise is 19th-century French literature and art history with a

Her PhD from Princeton University focussed on depictions of artists and their models in fiction, sculpture and painting of the period between 1850-1880. She is passionate about French history and loves to bring the era alive through lively presentations. This series of classes "Cooking with the Impressionists," marries two of her life-long passions: French art and food!
